Anglesey
An Gcolaiste Ceol

(Bardic College)

FROM THE CHIEF BARD:
An Gcolaiste Ceol, or The Bardic College of Anglesey has been in existence since our tribe emerged from the trees and hollows of our rocky island. The school has been led by several talented singers, writers, and musicians, and the leadership of the school is passed from one bard to the next as circumstance wills it. I was handed the school several years ago in an effort to continue the tradition of song writing and music-making established and led by kin who had need to travel far away from our shores. As the head of the Bardic College, I continue to write and perform songs in Anglesey and as I travel among our neighboring tribes. More importantly, I act as a teacher to those who wish to learn of our musical traditions and the dance forms native to our people, so that our voices and our feet will always make the walls and floorboards ring in our roundhouses and long halls. I record the victories and happenings of our people and the stories of our Gods to teach to the coming generations of warriors and artisans. Most importantly, I call out the messages of our Gods to my own people and screech out the bloody tidings of war to our enemies.

I have a great repository of songs and tunes I have learned from my kin in Anglesey and from friends in neighboring tribes. I am always willing to pass on my knowledge to my tribe, and will consider sharing our ways with friendly neighbors. I am also willing to train the brighter pupils who present themselves in the languages of our grandparents and the poetic forms of our parents. Given a good floor or a good drum, I will gladly train the feet and hands of any and all to roll out the rhythms of our tribe on the floorboards or the goat-skin.

FROM THE EDITOR:
Herein lies our history and traditions.
Be forewarned, these songs encompass adult topics and themes,
and some of them are so funny, your beer will come out your nose if you're not careful. Ed.
